God wants us to mature as Christians and like we expect children to grow and mature in their attitudes , their nutrition and their so also are we expected to mature and grow as Christians.
Apostle Paul wrote that we should transform from being babes who suckle and feed on milk to the maturity of chewing meat and crushing bones .
How does this transformation come about or happen? As Christians when we accept Christ as our personal Lord and saviour , He releases the Holy Spirit into our lives. The Holy Spirit guides our every day living and helps us to make the right decisions and choices daily . So why then do some Christians not live a mature and transformed life ? One reason for this could be the “rejection” of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Another vehicle for transformation is the word of God. People may come to church and hears the same word , however the word only manifests in a few and not on others. The answer to this can be found in the parable Jesus shared in Matthew 13. The word of God is spoken to everyone , however some fell on different soil and different hearts and this is the reason why some hearts remain untransformed. The vicissitudes of life , personal biases and historical orientation we refuse to let go off possibly squeezes out the word from our hearts making it impossible for the word to perform its transformative work in our lives.
Again transformation is also dependent on what we do with the word we hear. The Bible says that the word profiteth not because it was not combined with faith. What do we do when we hear the word of God spoken to us? Do we believe and run with it or do we discard it ? The Berean Christians heard the word and they dug deeper to get a better understanding of the word . This further study and digging helps this word take root in our hearts and this leads to the transformation we require to be mature .
Lastly, It is important to point out that transformation into maturity can also be a product of our “consumables”. What do we feed on constantly? What songs do we listen to? What books do we read , what movies do we constantly watch and what company do we constantly keep?
Transformation is a function of the input into the process. If we constantly hear things that do not lead to transformation into a mature Christian, then we will keep on suckling and taking milk.
God wants us to chew meat and bones. Go forth and chew meat !
